David Vinik
Producer – Director – Editor
David has over 30 years experience in television. He started his career as an apprentice film editor, eventually moving to directing, shooting and editing his company’s broadcast documentaries, editing news and public affairs programs, creating short films for non-profits and producing fundraising videos for universities.
Shooting in Mbale, Uganda, David and Debra took their cameras to reveal the stories of The Abayudaya, in a remote hilltop village outside of Mbale, Uganda. Over a 10-day period, David followed five rabbis on their official trip to convert the community to Judaism. As a result, they produced Yearning To Belong.
Over the years, he has edited an endless range of programs, at first, with an online inter-format editing system until today with his Avid Media Composers. With 22 broadcast documentaries, six Emmy Awards, and 20 years editing the weekly PBS series Out Of Ireland under his belt, David continues to shoot and edit for educational institutions, NGOs and governmental agencies.

Our Logo
What’s it all about?
The Diva Communications “moving chain” logo takes its inspiration from “Performance Machine – Big O’s” – an iconic Manhattan sculpture by artist Lowell Jones that resided on Park Avenue and 46th street during the 1980s. The public installation earned praise from the art world for its innovative use of motion and solar energy as two giant interlocking links, or “O’s,” would slowly open and close in four-hour cycles throughout the day. Like the rotation of the earth, the dynamic sculpture gave little impression of movement unless one had the time and patience to observe it.
“The first day that I passed it, the artwork was in a closed position and miraculously, when I passed the corner a few days later, the artwork was in a completely different position. It was open,” says David Vinik.
Upon closer inspection, Vinik spied a plaque that described a solar-kinetic sculpture that employed the principle of slowly changing form relationships powered by electric motors.
For the Diva team, who were thinking about launching a business, the black fiberglass artwork was not only pure magic but perfectly captured the spirit of their newfound partnership. Debra and David soon commissioned friend and 3D artist Jeff Sargeant to design a digital replica and while the original installation has long since been dismantled, its elegant formalism lives on as the logo for Diva Communications.
